Exploring Learning Environments and PBL at the Croft School - Jamaica Plain
One of the highlights of this year’s conference is the unique opportunity to visit The Croft School -Jamaica Plain, a student-centered school founded in 2020 that inspires curiosity, problem-solving, and a love of learning. Guided by its ethos—Rigor, Spark, Heart, Joy, and Belonging—and built on a model of student-centeredness, balance, strong relationships, outstanding teachers, and a diverse, inclusive, anti-racist community, Croft provides a rich and meaningful schooling experience for every student.
During the tour, participants will explore Preschool–Grade 2 classrooms, view ongoing project documentation and student work, and talk directly with teachers. Attendees will see artifacts and work-in-progress that illustrate how young learners engage in meaningful, inquiry-based PBL units within thoughtfully designed, learner-centered environments. This tour offers a rare opportunity to explore early childhood project-based learning firsthand and talk with the educators who bring it to life.

The following morning, the tour will conclude with a panel discussion and debrief, featuring Croft teachers, families, and children. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss observations, share insights, and learn directly from the Croft community about how classroom design, materials, and project work support meaningful, student-centered learning.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood : Using Fieldwork to Bring Project Based Learning to Life in Kindergarten Kindergarten students investigate their local community through hands-on fieldwork, connecting with local leaders and organizations to document, model, and share how individuals and spaces contribute to a strong, healthy community.
