Workshop Description
Start the school year with a project that has been tried, tested, and designed with young learners in mind. All About Our Names uses something deeply personal and familiar—children’s names—as a starting point for building classroom community, developing relationships, and learning about the children you teach.
Throughout the project, children learn about one another, discover the stories behind their names, make connections across their families and experiences, and work together toward a shared public product. Along the way, teachers have meaningful opportunities to get to know their learners—their strengths, interests, and identities.
In this 90-minute Project Walkthrough, we’ll explore All About Our Names, share practical strategies for implementation, and support you in adapting the project to your learners, standards, curriculum, and setting. You’ll use the ECPBL Project Planning Outline to begin making the project your own and leave with concrete next steps for getting started.
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
Explore the design and implementation of All About Our Names as an example of Project Based Learning with young learners.
Identify strategies for adapting the project to their learners, learning goals and standards, curriculum, and teaching context.
Begin planning for implementation of All About Our Names in their own setting.
